Our Curriculum

East Killara Montessori Preschool, embraces the five core Montessori curriculum areas.

Practical Life, Sensorial, Math, Language, and Culture — because they provide a holistic, child-centred approach to early education. Each area is carefully designed to meet the developmental needs of children, fostering independence, curiosity, and a deep love for learning. By engaging children in hands-on, purposeful activities, the Montessori methodology supports both academic growth and the development of essential life skills.

This approach ensures that children build strong foundations in key areas such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication, while also nurturing their creativity and understanding of the world around them.

We follow the Montessori methodology because it respects the individual learning pace of each child, encourages exploration, and prepares them not only for academic success but also for a lifetime of confidence, adaptability, and a sense of responsibility.

These curriculum areas are interconnected, aiming to develop the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally—while fostering independence, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.

  1. Practical Life
Focuses on everyday activities (e.g. pouring, cleaning, and dressing etc.). These exercises develop fine motor skills, independence, concentration, and a sense of responsibility forming a foundation for all learning.

  2. Sensorial
Specialized materials are used to refine the five senses. Activities help children classify and understand the world around them, laying the groundwork for mathematical and scientific thinking.

  3. Mathematics
Concrete materials are used to teach concepts like numbers, operations, and geometry. This hands-on approach helps children build a deep, intuitive understanding of mathematical principles.

  4. Language
This covers oral language, reading, writing, and grammar. Using a phonetic approach and tactile materials, children develop communication skills and literacy in a natural, engaging way.

  5. Cultural Studies
This encompasses geography, history, science, art, music, and sports. It broadens children’s understanding of the world, fostering curiosity, creativity, and appreciation for diversity.

Specialised Music, Dance and Sports Program

East Killara Montessori Preschool, also has a specialized Music, Dance, and Sports Program that complements the Montessori methodology, offering children a comprehensive and enriched learning experience.
